US shoe company removes Buddha’s image

September 25, 2012

The American Icon Shoe Design Company, a U.S. footwear company at the vortex of controversy after it used the Buddha’s image on one of its products, has stopped using the image after the government wrote to that company to stop doing so.

Various organizations in Nepal including the CPN (UML) Kathmandu Valley Coordination Committee flayed the company’s act of using the image of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace and Nepal’s icon, in shoes.

These organizations had also drawn the government’s attention to have the company stop doing that.
